Writings

Here are some of my writings that I've collected over the years, clumped by category:

A note about copyrights: all stories here are copyrighted under the GNU Free Documentation License. As far as I can tell (and you should read the actual license rather than take my word for it, caveat lector), that means that you can take my story, change it around, re-publish, and not pay me a nickel in royalties. Heck you can even make a movie out of it. Of course if you do re-publish you will need to re-publish it under the GNU license, so you can't really make any money from editing my work. That being said, I would certainly enjoy someone taking the time and effort to polish these rough pieces. I might even incorporate your changes and give you credit.

Science Fiction Writings

Science Fiction.  God, how I love it, in all its cheesy glory.  It's such an honest genre, in the sense that the writer doesn't have to prove that he's a great writer--he just needs to tell an interesting story.  Here are some of my contributions.

I notice that all these stories have a common theme:  an underdog takes on a much stronger character.  I don't consciously write that way, but for some reason that theme drives my writing.

Also, I notice recurring motifs:  for instance, I love using mythological characters (including angels).  Hearts too play a recurring role.  It seems that I keep re-writing the same story over and over, merely changing the characters and the scenery.

Drama Writings

These snippets are the “serious” stuff that I have written. Some are semi-autobiographical, but most are pure fancy.

  • Year-End Close
This is loosely based on an event that occurred in my hometown. Although he wasn't a friend, he was a friend of a friend, and nobody ever quite knew what happened. [I am ambivalent about this story. Although in a technical sense it's probably the best story that I have written, I feel that it lacks punch.]
  • Robert's Epitaph
This is a short-short story about the thoughts that go through a mafia turncoat's mind before he dies.
  • Ugly
This is loosely based on an event at college. This story makes me a little uncomfortable.
